Have you ever dreamt of opening a physical store Reader?
A brick-and-mortar, real-life shop stocked with your work, full of fans browsing your products while you squirrel away on your latest creation, chatting to customers as they purchase something new for themselves or a friend and gush about how much they love what you've made?
Maybe it's a collab with a bunch of artists, and you all get to share your work with your local community, growing your businesses together!
It could even be a pop-up! A special, one-off event for a few days, a week, or a month, to test the waters and give your audience an opportunity to browse your work in person without the chaos of a convention or market.
These dreams sound incredible, right? But I'm imagining they might seem far away right now. Impossible, even.
How do you get to the point where you're ready to open a physical shop as an artist? What does that process even look like? How do you balance that and the work you already do?
In this week’s podcast episode, I talk to Jessica Hische, a lettering artist working in branding, film and television, book design, and advertising who has recently opened TWO physical stores in Oakland.
Ready to get the inside scoop on exactly how to make your physical store dream happen and some inspiration from an artist who has done it not once but twice, Reader?! 🙌 ⤵️
